STUDENTS ATTEND UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL CAMPS ON FOUR COUNTY EMC SCHOLARSHIPS
June 27th, 2016A pair of middle-school students attended basketball camp on college campuses this summer, thanks to Four County EMCs Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarships.
Taliah McKinzie of Chinquapin won a full scholarship to attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp June 12-15 at N.C. State University in Raleigh. Taliah is the daughter of Tony McKinzie.
Logan Brown of Chinquapin received a full scholarship to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp June 18-22 at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Logan is the son of Danny and Karen Brown.
During the camps, scholarship winners stayed in dorms like college students and practiced together like a collegiate team. Campers worked with directly coaches and players to practice teamwork and leadership, along with basketball skills like handling and shooting.
“Basketball camp scholarships provide students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity learn from acclaimed NCAA coaches and develop fundamental skills that will serve them on and off the court,” said Gay Johnson, Director of Corporate Communications at Four County EMC. “Logan and Taliah excelled this summer, and we are proud to carry on the tradition of providing scholarships to outstanding students like them.”
This is the 13th year that the state’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives, including Four County EMC, have sent young women to camp at N.C. State and the 11th year of scholarships for young men to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp in Chapel Hill.
Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships are available to middle-school students every year and are part of Four County EMC’s commitment to community. Scholarship winners were selected based on an application that included academics, extracurricular activities and an essay.
