Rain and Heavy Winds Make Restoration Efforts Difficult
September 14th, 2018Hurricane Florence Update - 9/14/18 - 9:00 a.m. Line crews restored early outages last evening caused by Hurricane Florence, but were called in as torrential rain and heavy winds made conditions unsafe for line workers. Restoration efforts will continue as soon as conditions are safe.
Crews will contend with navigating treacherous, flooded roads and clearing debris before they can begin the work of making repairs to approximately 21,000 members on the system. Keep in mind, this is the current number of outages and we expect more as the day progresses.
Four County EMC is receiving support from cooperatives in Virginia, Alabama, Ohio, Canada, Georgia, Oklahoma and Florida as well as additional line crews and tree trimming crews. Together, these crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to members.
Four County would like to thank our members for their patience, and are reminded to only use generators and charcoal grills in well-ventilated areas; a garage does not count as a well-ventilated area. Never touch a downed power line, and remember that sometimes debris can cover fallen lines, making them difficult to spot. Stay safe!
